Two Days State Level Workshop on Minority Rights

2014: The Minority communities from different
parts of Odisha have gathered at Adhikar office, Bhubaneswar, to discuss rights
and issues of the minority communities of Odisha. Mr. Dhirendra Panda (Director
of CSFHR), Fr. Ajay Kumar Singh (Director of OROSA) and Mr. Jugal Kishor Ranjit
(from NCDHR) were the facilitators of the day. Mr. Dhirendra Panda explained
about three pillars of the minority rights are: Non-discrimination, Protection of Identity and Effective Participation. Fr. Ajay spoke about the hate Campaign that
is carried out since 1930 by Sangha Parivar killed many Christians in 2007 and
2008 in Odisha. Mr.Jugal led the participants to identify the issues related to
discrimination, loss of identity and non-participation in the decision making. He explained about the various rights provided
under international human rights mechanism and constitution of India. The
issues are lying with the government and the minority community itself. The
minority communities have to come forward to make the government accountable to
protect them.
Article 30(i) and 30(ii) of the
constitution guarantee the minority
community to establish and maintain their own educational institution but it
completely violated in Sundargarh district of Odisha. Article 16 (4) spoke about
reservation of seats for weaker section in appointment but it is not being
implemented for minority communities of India. The minority communities of
Odisha are deprived of equal opportunity in employment as their representation in
government job is very nominal
The training will continue till
tomorrow 2nd February 2014. As today they shared the issues of
minorities, tomorrow they will be sorting out the solution to these problems.
These will be followed up the effective action plan.
