Long Lasting Insecticidal Net as One of the Preventive Tools of Malaria

LLIN Distribution at Talamandali, Kosala CHC, Angul
Angul: GFATM supported programme Intensified Malaria Control Project-3 is actively implemented by the Government of India under National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme and Caritas India New Delhi as Primary Recipients. It is throughout Odisha LLIN (Long Lasting Insecticide Net) is being distributed these days under the IMCP-3. Probably this distribution has started in the month of May 2017 and will continue till End of July 2017.

It is believed that LLIN is one of the best tools for eliminating Malaria. In the effort towards malaria elimination Sambalpur Social Service Society is actively working in Angul, Sambalpur and Deogarh district and Lepra Society is working in Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj and Keunjhar district as Sub-Recipients.

Malaria could be eradicated by two ways: 1. Prevention Method and 2. EDCT- Early Diagnoses and Complete Treatment Method:

1. Prevention Method: - It is rightly said that prevention is better than cure, therefore, in prevention method BCC (Behaviour Change Communication) Activities plays the major role in creating awareness to the people. Awareness about the prevention method and also consequence of negligence. The awareness about the deadly disease so called Malaria. In this programme called IMCP-3, BCC are done in following activities convincing them to allow for IRS - Indoor Residual Spray,  to sleeping under LLIN( Long Lasting Insecticide Net) daily, to keep the surrounding clean and to take complete medicine if affected by Malaria:
              a. Miking
              b. Infotainment
              c. CCMD - Community Consultation and Message Dissemination
              d. Local School Activities
              e. Wall Painting
              f. Health Camp

2. EDCT Method: - Believing community as the solution to this existing problem. The EDCT is done by a Community Health Volunteer (CHV) or Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) at the village level. They do the early diagnoses by the help of RDT (Rapid diagnoses Test) and also give ACT (Artemisinin Combination Therapy) at the earliest.
